SOMETHING YOU MUST KNOW:

Ephesians 5:18 says to believers in The Lord Jesus Christ: “…be filled with the Spirit.”

Our human thinking cannot understand God’s Word. We need the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our soul to give us the power to learn and obey God’s Word.

When we believe on Jesus Christ as our Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. At that moment, He also fills our soul with His power. We can never lose the Holy Spirit; but when we sin, we lose the filling of the Spirit. When we sin, we need to obey 1John 1:9. Then we will be filled with the Spirit again, ready to learn and live in God’s Word.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

If you have not yet believed on Jesus Christ as your Savior, that He is the Son of God who paid the price for our sins, died and is risen from the dead, John 1:12 says: “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”

The moment you believe on Jesus Christ as your Savior, God’s power makes you His child forever; and when you leave this world, you will spend all of eternity with Him!

God’s Word teaches that those who never accept Jesus as their Savior remain separated from God. Outside His family forever. They will never be able to know God or enter the kingdom of God.

GOD’S WISDOM

Part 4

DO YOU WANT TO BE WISE? God’s word says that we CAN BE WISE. And guess what! We don’t have to be SUPER INTELLIGENT or REALLY OLD either! Even young children can be wise!

HOOOW?

Proverbs 9:10 tells us HOW: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Now that word FEAR does NOT mean to be AFRAID like you may think. Here, that word FEAR means to have RESPECT and REVERENCE and TRUST for the Lord. The person who FEARS GOD is not AFRAID of God. They realize that Lord is the TOP AUTHORITY OF THE UNIVERSE. They look to HIM for instruction and then TRUST HIM for how everything will turn out when they follow His instructions! We’ve learned in our study of God’s wisdom so far, that if we spend time with JESUS learning and then DOING what He says, we’ll become wise! Other people will begin to look at us & see SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT US! Even if we do get afraid sometimes, when we start to remember God’s word and His promise to us that He does JUST WHAT HE SAYS He will do, we won’t STAY AFRAID like everyone else! Here’s an example: The apostles Peter and John were not really smart or educated men; and people at that time knew that they weren’t. But certain people noticed that Peter and John had a knowledge and power that was AMAZING! You see, Peter and John had been preaching about Jesus Christ. They were teaching that Jesus was the ONLY WAY to be saved from judgment and receive eternal life.. Well, the religious leaders of the time didn’t like this at all. These religious leaders HATED JESUS as well as all the people who followed Him. They did NOT BELIEVE that Jesus was the Son of God who had died on the cross to pay for their (and our) sins. They did NOT BELIEVE that Jesus had been raised from the dead so they (and we) could go to heaven. These religious leaders were JEALOUS and wanted to keep the people under their own authority. They did NOT want people to believe in Jesus or follow after Peter and John. They even tortured and put people into prison for teaching about Jesus Christ. But Peter and John KNEW what Jesus had taught them at that time; AND they KNEW it was God’s power that had raised Jesus from the dead. They were NOT AFRAID TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT JESUS. Listen to what the people said about Peter and John:

“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled

and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13

Do you see? That’s what happens as you begin to RESPECT GOD. You begin to look at things the way THE LORD looks at them! You begin to have HIS VIEWPOINT about everything. But just KNOWING IT is NOT ENOUGH to make you wise. You must APPLY IT - DO IT! And when you DO it, you see God’s power at work. Listen to how much God honors His Word: “…for Thou has magnified Thy word above all Thy name.” Psalm 138:2 There is NO POWER ABOVE GOD! NO WORD MORE POWERFUL THAN HIS.

“For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.” Hebrews 4:12-13

WE CAN TRUST HIS WORD! HERE ARE SOME REASONS WHY WE CAN TRUST HIS WORD!

1. We can trust the Lord’s WORD because it is ALL POWERFUL. NOTHING IS MORE POWERFUL THAN GOD’S WORD! When the Lord says something - IT’S DONE and NO ONE CAN STOP IT! The Lord says this about His word in Isa 55:11: “So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void (that means empty), but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

Let’s see just a couple of things that the Lord has done just by SPEAKING His WORD ! Did you ever wonder how God created the universe? Listen to this!

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made: and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” Psa 33:6

IMAGINE!

God simply SPOKE this universe into existence! Do you know why the ocean stops near the shore? Why those huge and powerful waves don’t just keep on rolling over the entire earth? Instead, they just end up in a tiny trickle onto the sand? Listen to What the Lord said to the sea:

Job 38:11“…Hitherto (Thus far) shall you come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?”

The Lord simply spoke His word and the sea stays in the boundaries God has set for it.

“Fear you not Me? Says the LORD: will you not tremble at My presence, which have placed the sand the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree,

that it cannot pass it: though the waves thereof toss

themselves, yet can they not prevail: though they roar,

yet can they not pass over it?” Jeremiah 5:22

NOW THAT’S POWER! We can trust His word because it is ALL POWERFUL (omnipotent)!

2. We can trust God’s Word because of who God is. He is the highest authority in the universe! He is PERFECT, ALL KNOWING, ALL POWERFUL, ALWAYS FAIR AND JUST. HE IS ETERNAL. HE NEVER CHANGES. What His WORD says today, it will say forever! HIS WORD IS PERFECT AND ABSOLUTE TRUTH! GOD CANNOT LIE!

“Thy word is truth.” Jo 17:17

3. We can trust God’s Word because He has PROMISED to PRESERVE IT FOREVER JUST LIKE IT IS! He’s not going to change it - EVER! The things of this world will all pass away some day; but God has told us that His word will NEVER PASS AWAY! IT IS ETERNAL! We can COUNT ON IT!

“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but My words shall not pass away.” Mark 13:31

4. We can trust God’s Word because everything that He said would come true up to now, has come true EXACTLY as He said it would. There is NO ONE ELSE that can tell about things hundreds of years before they happen! Also, there are things about our world that God said were so thousands of years before man found out about them. Like the world being ROUND! God told us it was round thousands of years ago through the prophet Isaiah: “It is He that sits upon the circle of the earth,” Isa 40:22 Up until the 1400’s man thought the world was flat! Maybe Columbus TRUSTED the Word of God when he decided to set sail! Do you?
